The snake story

What fun we have had this week with Catharina’s snake story! Last week I was feeling dejected as my classes did not seem to go too well and I was feeling that my lessons were not engaging. But now that we have started the story, the students and I have been enjoying life! I managed to locate an old nylon tunnel that my own boys had when they were young. I purchased 3 metres of ‘snake skin’ at Spotlight. Then Ibu Anne had a ‘ular besar’!

One by one, three students were eaten by the ular, while Ibu Anne was distracted in the classroom.

Then ‘Pak Vetere’ came in and wanted to know where the kids were. Of course the class told him they had been eaten by the ular! Luckily, Mr Vetere had a ‘lombok’ which he gave to the snake, making him vomit.

‘Ular’ then proceeded to vomit out the three missing students! The students loved this story, and were begging to be eaten by the ‘ular’!  Last night I came up with the idea of downloading a wonderful vomit sound effect to play while students climbed out of the snake, which really added to the atmosphere. I will ask someone to video the story and post it to my youtube channel ‘Indonesian Fun for Juniors’ so my students can watch, listen and learn outside of the Indonesian class.

Below is the story in Indonesian, with much thanks to Catharina for the original idea and Bu Cathy for tweaking of the story.

Here is the link to the youtube channel, which is a work in progress!

    1. Hi Margaret, I have had them for quite a few years. An Indonesian artist drew them and they were shared at a three week Indo conference I attended. If you send me your email I can try and find the original file. I need to print mine out again anyway, they are very faded.
